Taiwan Day 2 - Churches, Food, Temples & Farms

Dalin, Chiayi, Taiwan

6/27/15

This morning Cindy, a friend of Pastor Allen's, picked me up and took me to the Taiwanese high speed rail station. From there, I took an hour long train ride from Taipei to the city of Chiayi.

Here's the view from the bullet train. We by lots of greens.

Chiayi County has about 650,000 residence and is home to the missionaries that I will be staying with for the next week, Mr. & Mrs. Harbour.

As I got off the train, Mr. Harbour picked me up and took me on a tour of the surrounding city. He showed me a lot of places of worship, important buildings, and a mini history lesson of Taiwan. After that, he took me to this hole in the wall dumpling restaurant where I tried my first Taiwanese meal (besides the plane food and complimentary hotel breakfast).

We then drove around looking at some more new churches and some of the pineapple, banana and mango farms in Dalin.

Mr. Harbour told me that his friend counted how many grains of rice were on an average rice plant which comes out to be about 100. He then made the analogy of rice producing 100 times more fruit of itself as how many offspring we can make for the Kingdom of Heaven through the Holy Spirit!

Mrs. Harbour took some kids to youth group in the afternoon and we dropped them off at their houses before dinner. During dinner, I met a coworker of the Harbours, Naomi, who works as a college bible study leader.

It was a blessing to hear about the city of Chiayi and the amount of effort that the Harbours and their team are putting into it. There are so many people who don't know Christ, but there are also a good handful of people who go to church now due to the work done by Holy Spirit and the missionaries here!
