Why "Cultivation"?
The Holy Spirit is currently cultivating the world through the work of the Gospel and thousands of Christian missionaries. The Cultivation Project's role in God's kingdom is to support and educate the world about this Gospel movement. The word, "cultivation" fits perfectly with the goal and vision of The Cultivation Project because the definitions of "cultivation" are:
1. the action of cultivating land, or the state of being cultivated.
2. the process of trying to acquire or develop a quality or skill.
3. refinement and good education.
1. Gospel movement
"...the act of cultivating land, or the state of being cultivated..."
Jesus commands us to, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28: 19-20). We want to support the Great Commission by capturing the cultivating truth and power of the Gospel both domestic and abroad.
2. Missionary Support
"...the process of trying to acquire or develop a quality or skill..."
Some of the biggest reasons why Christians do not go on missions or have the desire to support missions are simply because they do not know what missionaries do. The goal of The Cultivation Project is to strengthen the relationship between missionaries and supporters through the use of the media. By doing this, Christians back at home can witness specific examples of how God is using missionaries around the world, which in return, can develop, inspire and encourage supporters and future missionaries.
3. Documentary Making
"...refinement and good education..."
The Cultivation Project will focus on creating documentaries that provide a first hand point of view of God's missions field in order to educate and enlighten supporters of Christian missionaries. Small filmmaking teams will be sent out to various missionaries around the world with a vision of capturing their ministries, projects and situations and making the story easy to share back at home. When they are not overseas, The Cultivation Project will focus on ministries and stories that are developing in San Diego.
